2004 Zinfandel Russian River Valley
Old Vine
Limited Edition

Tasting Notes
Grown from an 80-year-old vineyard, this Zinfandel displays the
polished intensity reserved for vines of this age. The wine opens with a
lustrous fragrance of spiced plum and ripe black currant. A framework
of bright acidity and supple tannins carry an attractive mélange
of flavors. A burst of crushed blackberries with a sprinkling of black
pepper sets the stage. The engaging interplay of flavors continues with
black raspberry jam infused with honey and a dusting of cocoa.
The vineyard was planted in 1928 by the Barberi family, wine pioneers
of the region. In the heart of the Russian River Valley off Olivet Lane,
the clay soils were dry farmed for many years. This once-vibrant
vineyard was the pride and joy of the old Italian family. Today the
ancient vines are gnarled and stump-like, producing extremely low
yields of 1.6 tons per acre. Despite weathering years of stormy winters,
freezing nights and hot summer sun, these old vines still produce
lusciously concentrated grapes.
Unfiltered and unfined.
