2005 D’Argenzio
Pinot Noir Russian River Valley, Thorn Road Ranch
Tasting Notes
This wine invites with an alluring range of aromatics. Generous black cherry wraps around subtle notes of cinnamon, mint and dried rose petals. In the mouth, a velvety richness balances the bright acidity. Succulent cherries, ripe strawberries and lively black pepper fill the palate. The long, dimensional finish flows to shades of cloves, field mushrooms and roasted coffee. This Pinot Noir is rich and immensely enjoyable.
This earthy Pinot Noir was grown in the Russian River Valley Appellation on the Thorn Road Ranch, previously known as Thorn Ridge Vineyard. One of the cooler regions for Pinot Noir, these rolling hills near Sebastopol receive lingering fog from the nearby Sonoma Coast. The limited direct sunlight and dry-farming technique restrict the vineyard yield to only 1.8 tons per acre. Soils are the Goldridge fine sandy loam, the region’s most coveted soil for Pinot Noir due to its ability to develop intensely flavored fruit.
